Orange County Plastic Surgeon Q & A

Ask Doctor Grover - Can I find an inexpensive Nose Job in Los Angeles?

The cost of any cosmetic procedure will vary from surgeon to surgeon based upon one’s experience, training, background, board-certification, business strategy, etc.  You should not let the cost of the procedure dictate whether you have the procedure or not. Of course, you should not expect to pay an unreasonable amount of money for the procedure, but remember there are other costs other than just the surgeon’s fee. You will also need to pay the facility fee for the operating room and the anesthesia fee. This fee can vary depending on whether you use an anesthesiologist or a nurse anesthetist or just have your procedure done without an anesthesia care provider.

I prefer to perform my procedures in a fully accredited facility with a board-certified anesthesiologist who has much experience with cosmetic surgery patients.  Good luck.

Newport Beach Plastic Surgeon Q & A

Ask Doctor Grover - Should I see a plastic surgeon for my deviated septum?

You should seek out a rhinoplasty surgeon who is well versed with this procedure. Many surgeons who perform many cosmetic rhinoplasty procedures should be comfortable evaluating and treating nasal obstruction. However, this is not always the case and a patient should feel comfortable asking their surgeon how they feel about this. On the other hand, not every E.N.T. surgeon who is comfortable treating nasal obstruction, is comfortable performing a cosmetic rhinoplasty. You may find that the right surgeon is either a plastic surgeon or an otolaryngologist (ENT).

Orange County Cosmetic Surgeon Q & A

Ask Doctor Grover - How long is Rhinoplasty recovery?

Generally speaking, patients will notice an immediate change in their appearance the moment the splint is removed.  Most initial healing and reduction of most swelling occurs during the first 2-3 months.  One will notice diminution in the amount of swelling gradually over the next year (with thin skin) and up to two years (with thicker skin).

Orange County Cosmetic Surgeon Q & A

Ask Doctor Grover - How do I prevent bruising after Nose Job?

There are many factors involved to minimize bruising, some of which you have control of.  First of all, as the surgeon, it helps to use a gentle touch and to minimize disruption of the periosteum or lining that covers the bone. Avoid aspirin and other non steroidal anti inflammatories such as advil, alleve and ibuprofen for 10 days prior to surgery. Also, avoid Vitamin E, fish oil, Echinacea, AirBorne etc.  Take arnica montana several days prior to and following your surgery. Additionally, plenty of icing is important post operatively.

Orange County Plastic Surgeon Q & A

Ask Doctor Grover - Is Dorsal Hump reduction common?

Dorsal hump reduction is a common request. Although a dorsal hump reduction may be performed quite often and felt to be ‘easy’, there are many patients who have undergone rhinoplasty who have less than desireable results. Any one portion or a rhinoplasty can be quite challenging. Changing one portion of one’s nose may create or bring out other irregularities or dysharmony. It is very common to perform osteotomies following hump reduction of the bone and cartilage as well as tip modification to help achieve a balanced, harmonious aesthetic result.

Orange County Plastic Surgeon Q & A

Ask Doctor Grover - What is a ‘Tip Rhinoplasty?’

Tip rhinoplasty is desired by some patients. These patients generally require work only on the tip. They may have a nice width to the upper two thirds of the nose with a nice profile already. Usually patients will larger, bulbous or boxy nasal tips will benefit from tip work for more refinement. This is carried out well with an open rhinoplasty for many but not all. On occasion, a cartilage tip graft may be desireable.

Newport Beach Plastic Surgeon Q & A

Ask Doctor Grover - ‘Bad’ Nose Job Results are Subjective

A ‘bad nose job’ can be very subjective. A bad nose job can present itself with a undesired cosmetic appearance or an undesired breathing problem. Realize that the nose will go through a lengthy ‘healing’ period following rhinoplasty. This can be anywhere from 1 to 2 years. Do not rush into a rhinoplasty revision; however, it is not unreasonable to discuss your concerns with your plastic surgeon or another if you have significant concerns or anxiety. Avoid undergoing further surgery for at least one year following your initial rhinoplasty.

Orange County Plastic Surgeon Q & A

Ask Doctor Grover - Adding Symmetry to my face - do I need a chin implant with my rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty and a chin augmentation may be complementary.  When evaluating a patient for rhinoplasty, it is important to evaluate the patient for having a recessed chin.  Patients with a recessed chin can achieve a more balanced aesthetic result by placing a chin implant or moving the chin forward.  This can be nicely shown using computer imaging.

Ask Doctor Grover - Computer Imaging A Useful Tool For Results

Computer imaging is a useful ‘tool’, however, realize that some surgeons may use it to oversell unrealistic results. Imaging does help showcase potential results and is especially useful in showing the profile view. It is important to seek out a board certified plastic surgeon when searching for a rhinoplasty surgeon.
