Fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane are best to plump lips as they are fillers. Botox, on the other hand, effects the nerve impulses to muscles that create lines or wrinkles (dynamic rhytids). Having said this, I have on occasion injected Botox around the lips for “smoker’s lines” and patients have felt that it also helped them achieve a fuller lip by effecting the way the lip roll is.

It is best to pay for your Botox by the ‘unit’. Each vial of Botox contains 100 units. Every physician may dilute their Botox differently, thus, the best way to compare ‘apples to apples’ is by knowing the price of one ‘unit’ of Botox.
Most patients who are good candidates for Botox can benefit from 10-20 units in each ‘area’ (glabella, forehead, crow’s feet).
However, there are many other areas of the face that may benefit from smaller amounts of Botox such as “smoker’s lines”, corner’s of the mouth, neck bands, dynamic (mobile) nose tip etc.

Ask Doctor Grover - What are the best Wrinkle Fillers?
There are many fillers on the market today. Many of them work fine.
I prefer to use Juvederm for most of my patients. I will use Radiesse as well, but not in the lips. Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid sugar and can be used in many places. It is soft and forgiving.
Additionally, it will last 6-8 months in many areas, perhaps less in the lips. The nice thing about this is that it will not persist for years as the rest of the face ages, and if someone does not like having a filler, it will go away in time.

The wonderful thing about many dermal fillers today is that you will see immediate results. Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid or sugar that will attract water.
Because of this, you will see some additional swelling or fullness usually within 2-3 days. This usually resolves within the first week following injection. Rare patients may develop significant swelling, but is less likely.

Be aware that there are many different laser companies that offer FotoFacial or photofacial treatments. FotoFacials, or intense pulse light treatments are effective for pigmentation and telangiectasias or broken capillaries. If your IPL laser also uses radiofrequency, then you may notice some smoothing of the skin as well. Whenever you inject the skin with any product that requires a needle, there is a risk of a bruise. This can occur with Botox, Restylane or Juvederm. Having said this, usually there is no bruising or very little. It will help you if you avoid non steroidal anti inflammatories such as Advil, Ibuprofen or even aspirin for a week prior.
