Ask Doctor Grover - Clitoral Hood Reduction different than Labiaplasty
Clitoral hood reduction may be performed along with labiaplasty. Clitoral hood reduction is performed usually for cosmetic reasons to reduce the amount or appearance of tissue that cover the clitoris. Some feel that clitoral hood reduction may benefit one’s sexual experience.

Ask Doctor Grover - Labiaplasty before or after childbirth?
There is no medical reason that should stop you from having a labiaplasty performed further childbirth; however, you may wish to defer your surgery until afterward, so that you do not feel that you need to have this done a second time.
However, since you had a C-section, there is a good possibility that you may have another C-section and then there is less chance of having significant changes following repeat pregnancy. Regarding your discomfort with intercourse, this may be improved with labiaplasty, but there can be other factors contributing to this.

Ask Doctor Grover - What are the risks associated with Labiaplasty Surgery?
As with any surgical procedures, there are several risks that one must be willing to undertake. Although small, there is a potential risk for bleeding or infection. It is important to avoid aspirin and other anti inflammatories for 10 days prior to surgery. Perioperative antibiotics and good hygiene will diminish one’s risk for infection. Pain or discomfort is present, although not significant with a wedge technique. Wound separation is possible. Avoid intercourse for 6-8 weeks post operatively.

Ask Doctor Grover - Labiaplasty costs between $3,000 - $5,000
Labiaplasty costs, as with any cosmetic procedure, can vary. Every situation is different. Most patients who request a labiaplasty desire improvement in the appearance of the labia minora. However, some patients also request a labiaplasty of the labia majora (outer lips) and some may benefit from clitoral hood reduction as well as liposuction of the mons pubis.
Costs will also vary depending on whether the procedure is performed in the office or in a surgicenter and whether it is performed only under local anesthesia or with anesthesia delivered by an anesthesiologist.

Ask Doctor Grover - Labiaplasty is more popular than ever.
Labiaplasty procedures have gained significant popularity over the past 5 years due to changes in fashion and grooming as well as due to further education and media exposure. With grooming trends limiting amount of genital hair, a woman’s long or asymmetric labia (or inner lips) are more apparent. Some women choose to undergo labiaplasty strictly due to cosmetic reasons. Others may have functional problems or pain with clothing or intercourse.

Ask Doctor Grover - Labiaplasty
Labiaplasty can be performed on either the labia majora (outer lips) or the labia minora (inner lips). This can help give a woman a more pleasing appearance and correct excess, redundant labia that can occur congenitally or worsen after childbirth.
Several different techniques exist. I prefer to use a wedge technique on the labia minora (inner lips) as it gives a much more pleasing result than the amputation techniques.
