Ask Doctor Grover - What is a mid-face lift? Is it the same as a cheek lift?
A mid-face lift, also known as a ‘cheek lift,’ blends the lower lid/cheek junction. It differs from a lower facelift or facelift, which addresses the lower two-thirds of the face. There are several different techniques that plastic surgeons utilize to address the midface, including techniques through the lower eyelid in both the subperiosteal and suborbicularis planes.
Other techniques can approach the midface from the temporal approach in the hair and from the mouth. Others will address the midface during a facelift. Many options exist, and every surgeon will have their preferred techniques.

Ask Doctor Grover - How long between treatments for PhotoFacial?
Be aware that there are many different laser companies that offer FotoFacial or photofacial treatments. FotoFacials, or intense pulse light treatments are effective for pigmentation and telangiectasias or broken capillaries. If your IPL laser also uses radio frequency, then you may notice some smoothing of the skin as well. You should have a consultation with a plastic surgeon to evaluate your skin type to determine how long between treatments. If you are lighter skinned and not tanning, you can generally have a treatment every 3-4 weeks. However, seek a personalized consultation.

Ask Doctor Grover - How soon will I see results from Juvederm?
The wonderful thing about many dermal fillers today is that you will see immediate results. Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid or sugar that will attract water.
Because of this, you will see some additional swelling or fullness usually within 2-3 days. This usually resolves within the first week following injection. Rare patients may develop significant swelling, but is less likely.

Ask Doctor Grover - Newport Beach Facelift Surgeon Weighs in on Liquid Face Lift
A ‘liquid face lift’ can mean different things to different plastic surgeons. Generally speaking, it would involve injecting some form of dermal filler such as Juvederm, Restylane, or Radiesse and perhaps adding some Botox. This type of treatment would be more ideally suited for the type of patient that truly doesn’t need a true face lift. It’s all marketing. The term is ‘catchy’.

Ask Doctor Grover - Cost of Dermabrasion?
Prices for all cosmetic procedures will vary from surgeon to surgeon. This is the case with dermabrasion. There is no set price schedule that plastic surgeons use. Each plastic surgeon may feel that a specific procedure is more ideally suited for one patient versus another in the same area.
I recommend you consult with several board certified plastic surgeons to find one you are comfortable with. You may benefit from different laser treatments instead of dermabrasion.

Non-surgical Face Lift Possible for Patients in Newport Beach
A non surgical facelift generally refers to fillers, Botox, and certain laser procedures. These treatments are ideal alone for patients who do not require a facelift. Facelifts will help address excess lax skin and underlying tissues. Some patients who undergo facelifts will also benefit from these treatments such as Juvederm, Restylane, and Botox.

Ask Doctor Grover - Forehead Reduction Possible with Orange County Plastic Surgeon
Forehead reduction is possible using a pretrichial (hairline) incision. It is essentially a ‘reverse forehead lift’. This procedure can lower one’s hairline and elevate the brow position simultaneously. Healing time is approximately one week. Costs will vary from surgeon to surgeon and from region to region.

Ask Doctor Grover - Are skin pigmentation issues made worse by Botox?
Melasma, or the ‘mask of pregnancy’, is discoloration or hyperpigmentation patches usually around the cheeks, nose, and upper lip. It is best treated or improved with cessation of oral contraceptives, intense pulse light lasers, hydroquinone or agents such as Cosmelan. Botox has no effect on melasma. Botox is a neurotoxin that will improve dynamic wrinkles by relaxing or temporarily paralyzing muscles.
