Orange County Plastic Surgery News
Today we will be touching on a popular surgical procedure known as a breast lift. Breast lifts, also known as Mastopexy is a surgical procedure to reshape and uplift a sagging, droopy, breast. There are various reasons for a why a women’s breast changes over time. Changes can be a result of pregnancy, breast-feeding, weight loss, aging or even heredity. In addition to a sagging, droopy breast, the breast nipples will often point down losing the natural look one has from youth.
To add to the lift, Mastopexy can be enhanced through saline or silicone implants as many different techniques can be used to perform a breast lift. If one only has a slightly droopy breast, a breast implant may be all that’s necessary to restore the shape and look. However, if one has more of a sagging breast, then more incisions and thus scars will be required. While the necessary procedures will vary for each person, Dr. Grover and his team are skilled and eager to give you the breasts you desire.

Nipple size is something that can be a cause of great conflict for people. As the center of male and female breasts, nipples are the point of much attention. Long or oversized nipples can be a great source of embarrassment for men and women. A Nipple Reduction is a surgical procedure developed to improve the appearance of the nipple and chest/breast. Nipple reductions are requested by both women and men. Many people confuse the areola (the darker pigmented skin around the nipple) with the nipple (the projected part of the breast). This procedure is designed to reshape or reduce the size of just the nipple although it can also be combined with an Areola Reduction. Because this procedure is quick and simple with almost immediate results and minimal risk, and can be performed in conjunction with other procedures, such as a Breast Augmentation or a Breast Lift, it is increasingly being requested by patients. Although a Nipple Reduction is a minor procedure, it greatly increases one’s confidence and self-esteem by beautifying the chest/breast.

Ask Doctor Grover - Breast Implants Surgery Cause Stretch Marks?
Although most patients who undergo breast augmentation do not experience any stretch marks or striae, some can. A person usually develops stretch marks or tears in the dermis during periods of rapid growth in the presence of high circulating hormontes (steroids), for example, during puberty or pregnancy. If one’s skin envelope is quite tight and desires a large augmentation, this type of patient could potentially suffer from some stretch marks, depending on their genetics. These stretch marks initially are red in nature but whiten with time. Usually post partum women with stretch marks find that breast implants improve the appearance of their stretch marks.

Ask Doctor Grover - Reducing Breast Implants Size: How Long Should I Wait?
You can change your implants at any time; however, this may not be the wisest thing to do early on. Generally speaking, you should avoid re-operation in the first 3 months unless there is an emergency that is ‘forcing’ you to do so. Your breast will evolve over the first 3-4 months and you will start getting ‘used to’ your new breasts. You likely had a detailed conversation with your plastic surgeon prior to undergoing this procedure and jointly decided on the size you were going for. Correct?
Give it some time. You may be very glad you did not rush into something too hastily. It does not have to do with bleeding.

Ask Doctor Grover - Increased Capsular Contracture Risk with Breast Implants Replacement?
Replacing your implant with a smaller one in the same pocket should be fine if using a gel implant. If you are thin with little breast tissue, you will want to avoid a saline implant in the subglandular position to avoid rippling. With regards to capsular contracture, you should be fine keeping your implants in the same pocket if you currently have soft breasts.
Realize, however, that anyone with silicone implants can at some point develop a capsular contracture. There is evidence to show that the submuscular position has a decreased incidence of capsular contractures but this may not be your best option at this point and given that you are a personal trainer.

Ask Doctor Grover - Downsizing Breast Implants Is Possible, but Not Always Best Option
It is always possible to downsize your implants, but it may not always be the right thing. In your case, you mention that you previously had 400cc anatomical breast implants but was not satisfied with the size. 450 or 500 cc moderate plus implants will not be much bigger than the 400s you had before.
Ask your surgeon to place several temporary sizers during surgery to help you achieve a nice balance and result you are seeking.

Ask Doctor Grover - Tightness and Discomfort Normal for Post Breast Implants Surgery in Orange County
There are many factors involved that could contribute to a feeling of tightness or pressure following breast augmentation. One will generally feel tighter after a primary/first time augmentation, more so if completely under the muscle as opposed to partially under the muscle. Gentle massage and full time bra support may give you some assistance.

Ask Doctor Grover - Does Orange County Breast Reduction Include Breast Lift?
Most breast reductions will lift the breasts as well. There are rare instances when a breast reduction will be performed with liposcuction alone. Liposuction would rarely ‘lift’ the breast unless there is fantastic elasticity. Many breast reduction techniques will utilize the same incisions used for a breast lift with or without a breast implant.

Ask Doctor Grover - Breast Implants Settling into Place
It takes 4-6 weeks for your breast implants to ’settle’. There are many factors involved, including the tightness of your breast skin, envelope, the size and profile of your implant, the surface of the implant, and whether your implants were placed entirely under the muscle or partially under the muscle.
In reality, it is not that the implants have to ‘move’ down or ’settle’, it’s just that the lower pole of the breast tissue and skin needs to expand. Be patient.

Breast Implants Placement Under or Over Breast Muscle Effects Natural Look of Breasts
Breast implants are placed either on top of the muscle, entirely below the muscle, or partially under the muscle in a dual plane approach. I generally prefer the dual plane, partial retropectoral approach because, in my hands, I am able to achieve a more natural, tear drop shape with this technique because it prevents the implant from being too high in position on the chest wall in a unnatural position. Best advice is to seek a board certified plastic surgeon at surgery.org to set up a consultation to determine what is the best option for you. Good luck!
