Orange County Cosmetic Surgeon Q & A

Ask Doctor Grover - Eyelid Surgery without Anesthesia?

Eyelid surgery can be performed without general anesthesia.  It is reasonable to undergo upper eyelid blepharoplasty under straight local anesthesia.  One can also perform some types of lower lid blepharoplasty procedures under local anesthesia as well.  For some more aggressive procedures, patients will benefit from some sort of sedation or general anesthesia.

Orange County Plastic Surgeon Q & A

Is Laser Eyelid Surgery Better than Traditional Eyelid Surgery?

The question is not whether laser is best option. The real question is, should you undergo a transconjunctival blepharoplasty (through the inner aspect of the lower eyelid) or a transcutaneous technique (through the skin)?

A transconjuntival technique is a fine option if you only desire to remove or redrape some fat with or without laser resurfacing of the skin. The trancutaneous technique will allow you to address the fat, muscle, and overlying skin all at once. Most patients in their 40’s or older will benefit from a transcutaneous approach to better address the signs of aging.

Newport Beach Plastic Surgeon Q & A

Ask Doctor Grover - How much does Eyelid Surgery Cost?

There are many different techniques available to perform blepharoplasty. More commonly, upper lid blepharoplasty is performed more similarly from surgeon to surgeon. Lower lid blepharoplasty, will vary tremendously.

Some surgeons will only perform a transconjunctival blepharoplasty through the inner lower lid to remove fat, some will only remove a ‘pinch’ of skin from the outer aspect with or without transconjunctival fat removal or redraping. Some will perform fat contouring and skin/muscle redraping with an incision just below the eyelashes.

For more information, contact Orange County Plastic Surgeon Dr. Sanjay Grover.

Many options. Costs will vary.

Wearing Contact Lenses After Eyelid Surgery?

Many patients can wear contact lenses after 3 or 4 weeks following upper and lower blepharoplasty.  Some patients, however, may have some dry eyes or chemosis following blepharoplasty and should wait until this seems to be resolved.  Care should be taken if a canthopexy or canthoplasty of the lower eyelid was performed as this may disrupt or effect the result.

Newport Beach Botox Prevents Crows Feet

Botox is one of the best ways to prevent the formation of permanent crow’s feet or even dynamic wrinkles that occur with contraction of the muscles with squinting or smiling.   Appropriate skin care and sunscreen are also of importance.

Orange County Blepharoplasty Surgery Addresses Excess Fat Above Eyes

I prefer to use an external incision on many of my blepharoplasty patients to address the fat (excision or redraping), along with muscle tightening, skin removal and canthal tightening. You may need to have the skin/muscle addressed at this point and should seek further consultation.
