Newport Beach Plastic Surgeon Q & A

Ask Doctor Grover - Do some Doctor’s prefer Restylane over Juvederm?

Juvederm and Restylane are a type of substance known as hyaluronic acid (HA). They are very nice dermal fillers as they can be soft and last a while, but not too long. Remember, you will continue to age and your face will undergo changes. It is nice to not have a product that may be permanent and not ‘age’ appropriately with your face. A very important factor to achieve a nice result with a filler is, of course, your injector.

Newport Beach Plastic Surgeon Q & A

Ask Doctor Grover - How much bruising can I expect from Restylane?

Whenever you inject the skin with any product that requires a needle, there is a risk of a bruise.  This can occur with Botox, Restylane or Juvederm.  Having said this, usually there is no bruising or very little.  It will help you if you avoid non steroidal anti inflammatories such as Advil, Ibuprofen or even aspirin for a week prior.

As Doctor Grover - Can I get a Breast Lift at the same time as my Breast Reduction surgery?

Most breast reductions will lift the breasts as well. There are rare instances when a breast reduction will be performed with liposcuction alone. Liposuction would rarely ‘lift’ the breast unless there is fantastic elasticity. Many breast reduction techniques will utilize the same incisions used for a breast lift with or without a breast implant.

Ask Doctor Grover - How much does Breast Reduction surgery cost?

Breast reduction, or reduction mammaplasty, may sometimes be covered by one’s health insurance plan. Having said this, many plastic surgeons do not participate with insurance plans. Insurance companies require patients to meet certain guidelines to qualify for a breast reduction. They will require that the patient meets certain height and weight requirements and also require that a certain weight of breast tissue is removed from  each breast prior to paying for any procedures.

Ask Doctor Grover - Immediate Results with Juvederm?

The wonderful thing about many dermal fillers today is that you will see immediate results.  Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid or sugar that will attract water.

Because of this, you will see some additional swelling or fullness usually within 2-3 days.  This usually resolves within the first week following injection.  Rare patients may develop significant swelling, but is less likely.

Orange County Plastic Surgeon Q & A

Ask Doctor Grover - How big can I make my Breast Implants?  Is there a maximum size allowed?

The maximum sized available silicone gel implant available is 800 cc. You can get slightly larger with a saline implant. However, you should not choose a certain size without being evaluated by a plastic surgeon to determine if it is the appropriate size for you based on your chest and breast dimensions as well as condition of your skin envelope. You say you feel that your 500 cc implants are smaller than your 375 cc saline implants. One possible reason may be that you have different profile implants. You may have had a lower profile implant before and now have a higher profile implant in which has more projection but is narrower.

Ask Doctor Grover - What is the difference between labiaplasty and clitoral hood reduction?

Clitoral hood reduction may be performed along with labiaplasty. Clitoral hood reduction is performed usually for cosmetic reasons to reduce the amount or appearance of tissue that cover the clitoris. Some feel that clitoral hood reduction may benefit one’s sexual experience.

Ask Doctor Grover - What are the risks involved in Labiaplasty?

As with any surgical procedures, there are several risks that one must be willing to undertake. Although small, there is a potential risk for bleeding or infection. It is important to avoid aspirin and other anti inflammatories for 10 days prior to surgery. Perioperative antibiotics and good hygiene will diminish one’s risk for infection. Pain or discomfort is present, although not significant with a wedge technique. Wound separation is possible. Avoid intercourse for 6-8 weeks post operatively.
