Gluteal Augmentation Buttock augmentation can be achieved with either autologous fat grafting (Brazilian Butt Lift), buttock implants or a combination of both to improve one's buttock aesthetics, augmenting the buttocks and contour. Multiple factors are important in achieving an ideal appearing buttock aesthetics. Cultural ideals are also quite important to consider.
Fat grafting may be performed in patients with some additional fatty deposits which may serve as "donor" sites. However, it is quite common for a patient to present desiring an augmented buttocks but not having any significant amount of fat that can be used for grafting. These patients are ideal candidates for buttock augmentation using soft, solid silicone gel implants.
Buttock implants can be placed within the muscle, within the fatty tissue or just above the muscle (in the subfascial plane). Dr. Grover prefers to place buttock implants within the subfascial plane in order to obtain a preferred buttock aesthetic and to minimize complications such as capsular contractures. In order to minimize the chance for wound separation or breakdown, Dr. Grover prefers to place the implants through two curved incisions within the intergluteal crease 7 cm in length. These incisions will be hidden by current styles of thongs. It is important that patients who desire buttock implants remain off of their buttocks for two weeks post operatively except to use the bathroom in order to minimize the chance of developing a seroma (or serous fluid collection). |
