Gynecomastia (Male Breast Reduction Surgery)
Gynecomastia is the name used to describe an excess accumulation of fat or glandular tissue in the male breasts.
"Women-like breasts" or male breast enlargement is estimated to affect 40 to 60 percent of teen age males and may cause men to feel very self-conscious of their appearance. Many men affected by gynecomastia avoid situations where they are required to expose their chest. Most cases of gynecomastia spontaneously resolve before age 20. Gynecomastia can affect one or both breasts. In many cases, liposuction alone can be used to correct the problem if the excess build up is primarily fat tissue.
Potential causes include a number of drugs including marijuana, anabolic steroids, and performance enhancing drugs. Other conditions such as obesity, tumors, liver disease and more may also cause gynecomastia.
Surgical options for correcting male breast enlargement include liposuction, excision, or a combination of both. If the excess tissue consists mostly of fatty tissue, liposuction is a good treatment option. Dr. Grover prefers "power-assisted liposuction" as his preferred technique of liposuction. If the excess tissue is mainly due to glandular tissue, then excision is preferred through a periareolar (by the dark skin around the nipple) approach. If a component of both excess glandular tissue and adipose tissue exists, a combination of power assisted liposuction and excision are performed in combination.
Generally, there is minimal bruising with some swelling. Post operative compression garments (vests) are worn for 3-6 weeks postoperatively to help reduce swelling and allow for better skin re-draping.

Liposuction of the Chest, Abdomen or Low Back (Waistline)
The number one reason men are electing liposuction today is to enhance their physical appearance by surgically removing excess fat. Body-contouring, through means of liposuction, is best suited for men of relatively normal weight but have isolated pockets of fat that cause certain areas of their body to appear disproportionate.
When performing liposuction on men, Dr. Grover prefers "power-assisted liposuction". Power-assisted liposuction is a new and important technology for body sculpting and contouring. It is a much gentler technique than traditional liposuction, resulting in less trauma and a quicker recovery. It is an excellent method for permanently removing unwanted fatty bulges and creating a sleek, more defined body. There are a number of advantages for using power-assisted liposuction, the most notably being increased safety, decreased anesthesia time, less bruising, faster recovery, and greater precision.
The "power" in power-assisted liposuction refers to the advanced instruments used to perform the surgery. Traditional liposuction is performed manually by using a thin stainless steel suction tube that is pushed through the fatty tissue by the surgeon to extract excess fat. Power-assisted liposuction uses a mechanical tube which removes fat tissue by a rapid back and forth motion of several millimeters. This micro movement in power-assisted liposuction is far more precise than having a surgeon manually perform it. Moreover, it is particularly useful for hard to reach areas that could not be suctioned properly using traditional methods.
Liposuction is generally performed as an outpatient procedure under local Anesthesia and most men can return to nonstrenuous work in 1-2 weeks.

Rhinoplasty (Nose Surgery) For Men
Rhinoplasty is a procedure that reshapes the nose to create a more balanced facial appearance. Good candidates for nose surgery are men whose nose appears too larger for your face, there is a bump or a bridge, the nasal tips droops, the nostrils are excessively flared or your nose is off-centered, asymmetrical or crooked.
Reshaping of the nose can be achieved by reducing or increasing the size of the nose, narrowing the base, smoothing the profile and sculpting the contours of the cartilaginous tip. Dr. Grover would perform the procedure using either a "closed" (with in the nose) or "open" technique depending on the problems that exists.
Rhinoplasty may be performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia in an outpatient setting. Recovery time varies but most likely, you can return to work within 1-2 weeks, but the final results could take up to 6 months to become apparent.

Facelift, Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery), and Submental Liposuction for Men
Men, like women, are increasingly trying to reduce visible signs of aging, and as the face is our most visible feature, facelifts are becoming much more common. Facial aging includes a loss of skin elasticity and firmness, sagging skin or tissue and wrinkles. A facelift is designed to correct these aging features by restoring the midface, jowls and neck, allowing excess skin to be removed. The result is a firmer, more youthful appearance.
Eyelid surgery (known as blepharoplasty) is a procedure to eliminate sagging skin above (upper blepharoplasty) or bags below (lower blepharoplasty) the eyes. Men who experience drooping eyelids, puffiness or bags can be considered for blepharoplasty. Surgery can improve these symptoms and correct them by repositioning the muscle, redistributing fat that has settled into contours, and necessary, by removing excess skin.
Submental Liposuction (also referred to as neck lift) is a procedure to enhance the appearance of the skin on the neck and below the chin. Men who experience sagging skin below the jaw line, softening into jowls or a "double chin", could be a candidate for submental liposuction. Submental liposuction surgery eliminates the fat deposits and tightens the neck muscles, restoring the curve at the neckline with increasing the definition to the jaw line.
