Orange County Rhinoplasty – Nose Surgery

March 26th, 2012

It is not uncommon for men and women to be self-conscious about their noses for various reasons. For some people the size may seem too big or too small, there may be bumps or indentations that are especially prominent in a profile, the nostrils may seem to large, uneven or misshaped, the tip of the nose may be too wide, or any number of other issues. Other people may have problems breathing due to functional issues such as deviated septums which require a surgical solution. In many cases, it may even be a combination of functional and cosmetic issues that causes them to seek out help through Orange County Rhinoplasty.

Rhinoplasty, more commonly referred to as Nose Surgery or a “Nose Job,” is a procedure in which the plastic surgeon makes either inner or outer incisions to gain access to the cartilage of the nose to be able to remove, re-shape, re-size, or re-build in order to create a more harmonious nose that better flatters the features of your face and/or restores function to the nose.

To learn more or find out if Rhinoplasty may be right for you, contact our office to schedule a consultation with Dr. Grover.

Rhinoplasty swelling unusual 20 years after surgery

It would be very unusual for you to have swelling 20 years after surgery. It is not uncommon to have some persistent mild swelling for one to two years following rhinoplasty. It is more likely that there is an anatomical issue that still bothers you.

You should seek a consultation with a rhinoplasty specialist to further evaluate your nose and give you some advice.

Ask Doctor Grover – Newport Beach Rhinoplasty Bruising and Swelling Normal?

There are many factors involved to minimize bruising, some of which you have control of.  First of all, as the surgeon, it helps to use a gentle touch and to minimize disruption of the periosteum or lining that covers the bone.  Avoid aspirin and other non steroidal anti-inflammatories such as advil, alleve and ibuprofen for 10 days prior to surgery. Also, avoid Vitamin E, fish oil, Echinacea, AirBorne etc.  Take arnica montana several days prior to and following your surgery. Additionally, plenty of icing is important post-operatively.

Ask Doctor Grover – What is the Average Cost of Rhinoplasty Surgery?

Just like any procedure, you can find a wide variety of prices.  Rhinoplasty is no different.  You should not use cost as your main factor in selecting a surgeon.  The cost of revision rhinoplasty can run a great deal more.

A good place to start in selecting a plastic surgeon is the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).  Visit the ASAPS website by clicking the link in the yellow ASAPS member logo (above).

Orange County Rhinoplasty – Tip Rhinoplasty

Tip rhinoplasty is desired by some patients. These patients generally require work only on the tip. They may have a nice width to the upper two thirds of the nose with a nice profile already. Usually patients will larger, bulbous or boxy nasal tips will benefit from tip work for more refinement. This is carried out well with an open rhinoplasty for many but not all. On occasion, a cartilage tip graft may be desirable.

Newport Beach Rhinoplasty Recovery Different for Every Patient

Recovery following rhinoplasty will vary amongst patients and surgeons.  Some patients may notice little to no bruising following a rhinoplasty while others may experience a moderate amount.  If osteotomies (bone breaking) were performed, a splint/cast will be placed for 5-7 days.  Some patients are comfortable going out in public after 2-3 days with their splint on while others prefer to wait 7-8 days until their splint is removed.  If you have a party or photo shoot, you may prefer to wait 2-3 weeks.
