Plastic Surgery for Men

September 6th, 2011

Many men undergo plastic surgery procedures and the common misconception that plastic surgery is something only women are doing, is vastly untrue. Let’s take a look at some popular plastic surgery procedures men are getting:

*Gynecomastia, a condition causing over-developed breasts in men, requires male breast reduction surgery to create a firmer, flatter chest. It can occur on one or both breasts. Check out these gynecomastia treatment before and after procedure photos.

*Liposuction is a popular procedure for both men and women alike. The abdomen, chest and lower back being among the most common male liposuction areas.

*Rhinoplasty is another gender-neutral procedure. Many people dissatisfied with the shape, size or function of their noses can benefit from Rhinoplasty.

*Facelift, Eyelift and Necklift procedures are also popular among both genders, giving years back to the face, creating a smoother, more youthful appearance.

Orange County Cosmetic Surgeon Q & A

March 12th, 2009

Ask Doctor Grover – What’s the difference between gynecomastia and liposuction?

Gynecomastia surgery may involve liposuction and/or excision. Many patients who present with concerns of gynecomastia or enlarged male breasts benefit from some form of liposuction. I prefer power assisted liposuction, but ultrasonic liposuction is another good option. Some patients, however, have some very firm, glandular tissue that will require excision with an incision made on the underside of the areola.

Gynecomastia procedure – Incision Location

Patients suffering from gynecomastia or male breast enlargement can be treated with several different surgical modalities.  These include:

  • Liposuction only (preferably power-assisted liposuction)
  • Liposuction along with surgical excision
  • Excision of the glandular tissue (subcutaneous mastectomy) only.

Surgical excision can be performed using semicircular incisions along the lower border of the areola or small ‘stab’ incisions along the areola.  The appropriate method chosen will depend on the underlying problem.

Gynecomastia is a fairly common disorder, but one that is rarely spoken of in public.

Chances are you know someone who suffers from enlarged male breastsTruly.

Approximately 40% of all healthy adult men deal with this problem and its emotional impact every day.  Los Angeles Gynecomastia Plastic Surgeon Dr. Sanjay Grover specializes in serving those who suffer from this emotionally devastating disorder with compassion and highly trained surgical precision.  It is his goal to lessen the embarassment and anxiety men who have enlarged breasts suffer when they take their shirts off at the beach or in their own bedrooms.

The procedures available are liposuction, excision or a combination of both.  Dr. Grover prefers using power assisted liposuction (PAL) in combination with excision to remove unwanted glandular tissue as well as excess fat deposits to create a more attractive, contoured chest.

Male Breast Reduction (Gynecomastia Liposuction and Excision)

March 21st, 2008

“Women-like breasts” or male breast enlargement is estimated to affect 40 to 90 percent of teen age males and may cause men to feel very self-conscuious of their appearance. Many men affected by gynecomastia avoid situations where they are required to expose their chest. Most cases of gynecomastia spontaneously resolove before age 20. However, approximately 10% may persist through the adult years. Gynecomastia can affect one or both breasts. Gyencomastia may be due to excess glandular tissue or adipose (fatty) tissue.

Potential causes include a number of drugs including marijuana, anabolic steroids, and performance enhancing drugs. Other conditions such as obesity, tumors, liver disease and more may also cause gynecomastia.

Gynecomastia may be emotionally devastating to a teen or adult male. Many males with gynecomastia may suffer from feelings of embarrassment, humiliation, and shame. One may even suffer from significant anxiety from just taking off their shirt at the beach or pool.

If the gynecomastia is a cause of obesity, weight loss may improve the condition, but does not usually completely eliminate it.
