July 10th, 2009Ask Doctor Grover – Effects of Botox varies from patient to patient
On average, most patients will notice that they will see a return of ‘dynamic’ wrinkles (those created from muscle contraction) by three months after injections of Botox.
Some patients do not want to see any movement or appearance of any wrinkles and may feel that Botox only lasts them 2-3 months, while other patients may say that their Botox lasted them 6-9 months, but upon examination you see a fair amount of movement.

In general, this is not dependent on age. You may find someone in their late 20′s or early 30s with very animated wrinkles that are quite apparent with only little muscle contraction, while you may see a 60-year-old patient with few dynamic wrinkles.

July 3rd, 2009Ask Doctor Grover – Botox works wonders for dynamic wrinkles on the forehead, lips and eyes
Botox works very nicely for ‘dynamic’ wrinkles which occur due to forehead muscle contraction. It will also prevent future wrinkles from developing. Botox, however, does not eliminate wrinkles that are already etched in although it may soften them. For these ‘static’ or permanent wrinkles you can consider other options such as ablative or non-ablative laser resurfacing. These laser procedures, however, will work best if combined with Botox otherwise the wrinkles will return fairly quickly.

June 30th, 2009Should I wait to have a Face Lift until after my Botox wears-off?
Botox and fillers are complimentary to many Face Lifts. Each procedure can improve signs of aging at different levels and regions. It is usually not ideal to perform all of these procedures in the same setting however as the effects of the filler and Botox will be less precise.

June 30th, 2009Ask Doctor Grover – Botox for Lip Lines
Botox is a wonderful modality to utilize for lip lines; however, you must understand what you are getting into.
When injecting Botox in the forehead or glabella, it is okay if one is unable to contract these muscles; however, only a small amount of Botox should be injected around the mouth at any given time in order to prevent oral disharmony or affect one’s pucker too much. This may mean that you will require more frequent injections to maintain this result.

June 4th, 2009Botox Works Well – Used in the right spots
Too much Botox or even a little in the wrong place can cause your eyebrows to droop.
As you know, there are muscles that work to lift the brow (the frontalis muscle in your forehead) and muscles that can pull down the brow (the orbicularis muscle around your eyes). They work in balance.
One can achieve a nice ‘chemical browlift’ by injecting appropriate amounts in the right spots.
However, if you have a tendancy towards too droopy of a brow or too much excess skin, Botox will not help and you would benefit from a blepharoplasty or browlift.

June 4th, 2009Botox and Juvederm used together create amazing results
Fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane are best to plump lips as they are fillers. Botox, on the other hand, effects the nerve impulses to muscles that create lines or wrinkles (dynamic rhytids). Having said this, I have on occasion injected Botox around the lips for “smoker’s lines” and patients have felt that it also helped them achieve a fuller lip by effecting the way the lip roll is.

Ask Doctor Grover – What is the appropriate amount of Botox?
Many patients benefit from Botox for treatment of dynamic wrinkles of the forehead, glabella (11′s), crow’s feet, and droopy brows. Fifty units of Botox is a very average amount to begin with. Some patients may require more on their second treatment.

April 27th, 2009What is the Botox Breast Lift? Ask Orange County Breast Lift Surgeon Dr. Sanjay Grover
Botox can be used to achieve a ‘chemical brow lift’. There are antagonistic muscles in the face/brow that work in balance to adjust the brow position. If one appropriately injects the opposing muscles in the correct positions, one can achieve a ‘brow lift’.
The frontalis muscle can be injected in the forehead, but not in the area directly above the outer aspect of the brow. This will allow the frontalis muscle to raise the brow if the muscle which pulls down the brow, the orbicularis, is injected or relaxed directly under the brow.

April 27th, 2009What is the standard cost of Botox? – Ask Doctor Grover
It is best to pay for your Botox by the ‘unit’. Each vial of Botox contains 100 units. Every physician may dilute their Botox differently, thus, the best way to compare ‘apples to apples’ is by knowing the price of one ‘unit’ of Botox.
Most patients who are good candidates for Botox can benefit from 10-20 units in each ‘area’ (glabella, forehead, crow’s feet).
However, there are many other areas of the face that may benefit from smaller amounts of Botox such as “smoker’s lines”, corner’s of the mouth, neck bands, dynamic (mobile) nose tip etc.
